Kind gestures from strangers on the weekend reminded me that the world isn’t as bad / scary / awful as the news can make us think. It was also a reminder that kindness matters, ALWAYS.
Over the past couple of weeks my car was a little bit slower to start, and I made a mental note to get the battery replaced. On Saturday morning I had some running around to do, and figured I’d get the battery sorted while I was out and about.
I filled up with petrol and as I walked in to pay, I noticed they had a car wash. My car was quite grubby so I paid for the gas and a basic wash, then drove in and turned off the ignition the while the noisy washing machine did its thing. When the cycle finished and I turned the key to move along, she wouldn’t start.
So there I was, stuck in the drive-through car wash.
Thankfully there were two cars behind me, with drivers patiently waiting their turn for a wash. The fellows in both vehicles came out and kindly offered to push my little car out of the way. And then I had another stroke of luck. A taxi driver was walking back to his cab, and he offered to give me a jump-start. In just a few minutes I was back on the road and on the way to a mechanic to get a new battery.
If it wasn’t for the kindness of these three men, who generously helped out a gal on her own, I could have been in quite the pickle.
So before you go thinking that you shouldn’t trust strangers and everyone is horrible, remember that there ARE good people in the world. Kind and generous souls who will lend a hand, without any expectation of something in return.
A little bit of kindness and help goes a long way. We can all do something, even if it’s something small, every day to make someone else smile. Maybe we haven’t lost our manners after all.
I’d love to hear your stories. What kind thing has a stranger done for you lately?
