Sydney’s warmer weather had me out and about a lot this month, and that meant lots of great veg eats. Here’s a snapshot with some of my favourite meals.
It’s so great to see more quality options out in the west. On a weekend visit to Parramatta and had brunch at The Elevation. It’s a small and modern cafe in the restaurant hub of town. I had a pretty great haloumi, mushroom and pesto burger with crunchy potato gems. I loved the combo of flavours and how hearty this burger was – I’ll be back to try more goodies on this trendy menu.
Healthy bowls are all the rage right now. They’re easy to assemble and they can be loaded up with stacks of goodies. Fishbowl in Surry Hills cured my weekday craving for a nourishing bowl with their Asian-style tofu bowl with brown rice. It had a great mix of flavours and textures, and the small serving size was more than enough for my happy tummy.
Weekend food truck festival Park Feast came back to Bella Vista this year so I popped by to check it out. This time I tried event newcomer Nutie donuts. You’d be hard pressed to release these treats are gluten-free – I had no idea! I got the red velvet and the cherry ripe donuts. They were quite sweet but certainly worth trying. Even though I didn’t stay as long or sample as many eats as last year, it’s awesome to have a free foodie event just down the road from home.
A bonus of working in Sydney is having so many food options nearby when you’re up for a long lunch or early dinner. I had a meal with colleagues at busy Italian eatery Macchiato, and enjoyed a simple pasta dish of broccoli, kale and chilli. I switched the penne for spaghetti and it was the perfect choice, along with a chilled glass of pinot grigio.
Last on my list was a lovely Saturday brunch at Something for Jess in Chippendale. I hadn’t been for years so it was nice to drop by and have a tasty organic meal. I ordered the mushroom and avocado on toast with a side haloumi. I’m a big fan of adding nuts so the crunchy almonds were an excellent addition.
