You guys, I had such a delicious month of eats! This bumper edition features some of my favourite meals from out and about in January.
A family lunch at Lotus Dining in The Galeries was a huge hit. The restaurant is sleek, modern and inviting and the Chinese dishes are beautiful, light and full of flavour. The menu offers lots of vegetarian options and everything we had really impressed.
We shared vegetable sang choy bow, shiitake mushroom dumplings and crispy tofu with salt and dukkah which our waitress boasted as the best salt and pepper tofu in Sydney. A dish we loved was the crystal ice plant salad with fascinating leaves that look like they are covered in drops of water. Oh and the cocktails and desserts! It certainly won’t be my last visit – Lotus is a great spot for a modern Chinese meal.
Local favourites are always a winner and The Baron at Castle Hill never lets me down. Oh a sunny Saturday morning I had the Max Power sans egg which is a big healthy bowl of roast pumpkin with avocado, sauerkraut, grains and greens. I could eat that every day.
Another healthy bowl I enjoyed was at Vermicelli in Sydney – they had a sign out front for a new vegetarian range featuring a vermicelli noodle bowl with vegetarian chicken. This was one tasty lunch! I do hope they keep this on the menu, I really enjoyed it.
This month I FINALLY made it to The Green Lion at Rozelle, Sydney’s first vegan pub. The serves are generous so this is the kind of place you really need to bring an empty stomach to (especially if you want dessert!). I had a huge Aussie Burger which came with a serve of rustic hot chips. As recommended by my friend I went with a chocolate peanut butter brownie for dessert, with a hefty scoop of vegan ice cream on the side. Everything was so good that none of us shared our meals! It’s hearty home-style eats and I’m bound to be back.
My first visit to waterside Barangaroo resulted in the next two eats.
A Turkish lunch with friends at Anason was a delight and the menu is well designed for sharing. I particularly loved the pumpkin hummus with crispy chickpeas, the charred broccolini and the smoked eggplant.
Donuts. I love donuts. I’d been wanting to try Short Stop for some time and I’m so glad I finally got to try them! The standout was without doubt the maple walnut and brown butter donut. The classic vanilla bean was also pretty darn good.
