Woohoo, welcome to 2018! I thought I’d kick off the new year with some of the awesome veg eats I enjoyed last month. This one is a bumper issue including market snacks, restaurant visits and a home cooked festive showstopper.
Last month I was invited to check out new Indian restaurant Masala Darbar in Surry Hills. The great thing about Indian cuisine is the amount of veg dishes they offer! Some of my favourites were the palak paneer, saffron rice and black lentils.
In December when the Finders Keepers Market comes to Barangaroo, it’s the perfect spot to stock up on Christmas presents. This time one of my favourite veg restaurants Yulli’s had a stall, so lunch was a haloumi and mushroom wrap, with a side of crunchy fried broccolini. Dessert was a couple of gluten-free donuts by Nutie – vanilla raspberry and rosewater pistachio.
On our last girls trip to Melbourne, a couple of times we tried to hit Chin Chin but it was ALWAYS (and notoriously) full. Now that they’re here in Surry Hills, we made a plan to meet there straight after work in the hope that we’d nab a table. It worked! They have loads of veg options and some of our faves were the BBQ cauliflower, satay pumpkin and the penang curry with grilled eggplant. There are a stack more dishes I’d like to try so I’ll be back for sure.
The new Sydney Vegan Market in Marrickville is now my favourite outing. As well as a stack of kind products from clothing to facial products, there are so many vegan food stalls. Going on an empty stomach is the way to go, as you can shop AND enjoy loads of snacks.
Market highlights include the epic breakfast burger from MAKER and the KFC cauliflower from Secret Creek Cafe. The market is held on the third Sunday of the month – you can bet I’ll be back for more awesome eats this month.
Last and by no means least was Suzy Spoon’s fantastic veg roast and gravy, which was the showstopper for our Christmas meal. It took the stress out of preparing for our holiday meal and was even better the next day as leftovers. Guess what we’ll be ordering for our holiday table next year!
What memorable veg eats did you enjoy in December? Hit me up in the comments with your favourites.
