With all the festive catch ups, December is always a busy month for eating out. Here are some of my favourite meals around town.
It’s not the first time and certainly won’t be the last that El Jannah features in my highlights. I met friends at Granville for lunch and I feasted on crunchy falafel, garlic sauce, pickles and salad wrapped up in flatbread, with a side of tasty fries. It’s quite cheap and so darn good.
It had been an age since I spent time in Crows Nest and it’s great to see so many good eats in the area. My friend and I stopped at Kürtősh for a sweet treat. They are gloriously soft and hollow Hungarian pastries, that have a delicate and flaky outer crisp. The one filled with Nutella and covered in pistachios was the dreamiest and one I’d love to have again.
On my second visit to Henry Lee’s in Redfern, I discovered the magnificent mushroom fries. Oh boy, what flavoursome treats they are! Thinly sliced and deep-fried to a golden crunch. I’d love to try making these at home.
A trolley carrying a huge wheel of cheese (it costs around $500 and only lasts a few weeks) was rolled over to our table and in a flashy display, the cheese was lit up so the cheese could melt. Short pasta was then tossed in and scrapings of the melted cheese and freshly ground black pepper was mixed through and served into bowls, topped with a sprinkling of fresh parsley. It’s an impressive show and the pasta is really good. We shared bowls of cheesy pasta, a margarita pizza and a couple of indulgent desserts so it was basically the perfect idea night out.
