Earlier this year I went on an eye-opening trip that I’d love to share with you.
After enjoying such a memorable food tour of Vietnam last year, planning the next journey was easy as I was keen to explore another country through food. Thankfully Intrepid Travel’s list of food themed tours appears to be growing so I’ve got plenty of adventures on my wish list!
After much deliberation, I decided on the Real Food Adventure of Cambodia.
Cambodia is a fascinating country in southeast Asia with a harrowing history, many archaic structures and relics and a population of more than 15 million. Cambodia’s neighbouring countries are Vietnam, Laos and Thailand.
I will share each place in separate posts but until then, here’s an overview of what was crammed into this interesting and delicious tour.
In Phnom Penh we learnt about Cambodia’s sombre past, rode bicycles through the quiet streets of Battambang, enjoyed the hospitality of a rural homestay and local dishes in Banteay Chhmar, visited Kompong Phlok where bamboo homes sit high on stilts to overcome the rise of the Mekong River, explored timeworn Angkor Wat and other ancient temples and attended a wonderful cooking class in Siem Reap.
These are the other posts for my Cambodia visit:
- A harrowing day in Phnom Penh
- Veg eats in Phnom Penh
