And when in Pisa, one must see the Leaning Tower and take a few photos.
As expected, a lot of tourists were staging push / hug / kiss photos with the tower in the background. And then I saw something I wasn’t expecting. A young blonde girl taking a duck face selfie.
Confused? Let me break this ridiculousness down for you.
A ‘selfie’ is a self-taken photo and ‘duck face’ is exactly how it sounds – a pouty-kissy-mouth pose that really doesn’t look as attractive as the selfie taker thinks. Urgh.
Ok so I get the selfie part because you don’t always have someone with you to capture the moment, but COME ON – what happened to simply smiling for a photo? Sheesh, I must be getting old…
With the sightseeing done, I made my way through a touristy trinket-filled market (without buying anything) to a small cafe to meet the rest of the group for lunch. I went with a margherita pizza and coke meal deal for €7 (around $10). Bargain!
At just a couple of hours it was a very short visit to Pisa but we had another destination to get to – next stop, Florence.
Is it just me or do some tourists make you cringe too?
