For years I didn’t have a passion project. If you’d asked me a couple of years ago if I was crafty, my answer would have been a resounding no. I didn’t think I had much of an artistic streak, even though it was a subject I was really into at school. Last year I discovered a love of crochet and my latest obsession is playing with polymer clay. It’s never too late to learn something new!
A while back I was whipping up loads of different sized crochet baskets (I have drawers full of them!) I loved the structure of following a pattern, seeing it grow with each row and having something unique and useful afterwards.
What I really love about this type of art is that you can go completely freestyle with the colours, shapes, sizes and styles you create. Fingerprints, dents and imperfections give each piece a real handmade look and feel. There’s lots of different processes too – shape, bake, glaze, string – so for me that keeps it interesting.
Since class I’ve been on a bead making frenzy, and I’ve made a stack of necklaces (and spent loads on clay, tools and accessories!) I feel like I’m getting closer to finding my own style, so that my creations have a unique look. Now that I’ve made so many, I figure that the next step is to open an Etsy store and start selling them! With Christmas just around the corner, I figure it’s the right time so stay tuned folks 😉
What’s your passion project?
I didn’t realise how much I needed a creative outlet until I found it. It relaxes me, makes my heart smile and I feel proud of my creations when they are complete.
I would love to hear your stories! What hidden talent do you have that keeps you sane and takes up all your free time?
