Party with pisco

I was recently invited to join the Posh Girls Dinner Club. Well how could I possibly resist, it sounded so fancy and exclusive! Besides, I’m always hungry and I love fine dining so it was right up my alley.

These 3 lovely gals meet every couple of months to catch up over a fancy meal. What a great idea! So I met them one rainy night last month for dinner at Morena in Surry Hills.

I love trying new foods and having not had Latin American cuisine before, I wasn’t sure what to expect. It was a lovely meal and my introduction to a very moreish peruvian grape brandy called pisco.

Although we were the first diners to arrive at the restaurant, our charming waiter Luis wasted no time making us feel welcome and relaxed. We were very well looked after and that really makes such a difference to an overall dining experience.

Having never heard of pisco before I wasn’t sure what to have, so I asked Luis for his recommendation and was delivered a Pisco Punch. It’s aptly named as this tasty cocktail sure does pack a punch!

I was having too much of a girlie fun time to take great photos (whipping the camera out for very quick snaps) so unfortunately I only have a few good ones to show you. Perhaps you’ll have to go along and try it out yourself!

I absolutely loved the Andean Garden entree which was both visually stunning, delicate and delicious. Of the three desserts we shared, the white chocolate cheesecake with sliced almonds was my favourite.

As we were leaving we walked past the open kitchen and stopped to thank chef Alejandro Saravia for the delicious food and great service. I had always imagined that chefs were way too busy to chat so I was pleasantly surprised (and a little starstruck) that he generously gave us a few minutes of his time.

Alejandro told us a little about the different types of pisco and gave us a new one to try. We were each given a little of this amber liqueur, on ice. It was beautifully warming and tasted like liquid honey. A great winter warmer.

How did it rate?
I really enjoyed Morena and it’s a place I’d like to visit again. The service was outstanding, the food was lovely and beautifully presented. They also have a huge list of pisco cocktails! I think it would be a great place to visit with a big group. Two happy faces for me!
