In November 2016, Bella Vista (the ‘burbs to the north-west of Sydney) was home to Park Feast – a food truck festival at Bella Vista Farm. This weekend it was back, with more food trucks and lots of visitors.
The event featured free entry, loads of food trucks, rides for the kids, multiple stages with local entertainers and free parking on site. The big grassy area made it the perfect setup for a picnic with family and friends.
As this is my ‘hood, I was so chuffed to see a big event like this in my area. I went to the first one in November on both days and cleared my calendar to do it again in February. It was worth it!
When it came to veg eats, there were some good savoury options but you did have to look around. I was keen to try the mushroom arancini from Fritto and Co but unfortunately they use chicken stock in the risotto, which ruled them out for me.
I had high hopes for the tofu and shiitake teriyaki from Tsuru but they were already out of shiitake at lunch time Sunday. I had the bao and chips combo and could see how the shiitake would have made it so much tastier. The chips were tossed in a bit too much seasoning for my liking.
The Italian fellows at Inbocca had little squares deep-fried penne with four cheeses. Crunchy on the outside and gooey on the inside, these were the ultimate comfort food.
My favourite sweet treat was the banana split waffle with strawberries from De Wafel. A crunchy Belgian waffle with fresh banana, strawberries and a scoop of ice cream. Next was the soft Twix donuts from Diego’s Donuts featuring soft pillowy donuts covered in biscuit crumbs and chocolate sauce. The hot loukoumades from Me Meli were also great, drizzled with chocolate and crushed hazelnuts. And who could forget a classic choc top from Classic Treats.
Most of the portions were quite generous so it was worthwhile bringing a friend and share your eats with, and so there was tummy room to try more dishes.
I’m hoping the success of Park Feast will see it return soon. It’s great to support a local event that’s close enough to pop in for lunch on both days!
