If you’re anything like me, you’d find it pretty dang hard to resist a kitty snuggle. I mean come on, they’re so darn fluffy and cute!
Ok I admit it, I am a bit crazy about cats.
Conveniently located on the main street in Subiaco, this cat lovers den doubles as a cafe. It’s great for coffees and indulgent sweet treats, and has a cozy quiet spot inside with comfortable couches and nine lovely rescue cats.
The cats were different ages and sizes, including two deaf and very beautiful white males who each had a green and blue eye. There was a mix of feline personalities with some quite timid and others who were just plain cheeky and outgoing.
Each session (for 30 minutes or an hour) has a limited number of visitors. This ensures there is minimal stress the cats. I was pleased to learn that part of the proceeds are donated to local animal welfare organisations.
Having never been to a cat cafe before, I was glad that everyone in the room was respectful. The staff keep a watchful eye during each session to make sure every cat is comfortable and content.
Having lived with cats for many years and knowing that you cannot force a cat to do anything, my approach was to simply sit down, enjoy the experience and let them come to me, if they wanted to.
I found it a bit strange for cats to have to deal with a constant stream of strangers who probably expect them to play and cuddle on command. I’m sure these kitty cats come across some visitors that they just want to stay the heck away from. It was good to see lots of ledges up high for annoyed / bored / tired or frustrated pussins who want to take a break from all the attention.
I did so enjoy the visit. I think next time I’ll take a book and sit on the couch and hope for a sleepy kitty to come and snooze on my lap while I quietly read.
Tell me friends, do you love our feline friends? I’d love to hear about your kitty experiences.
