There’s something really satisfying about making your own baked goods. It’s so rewarding to see them come out of the oven – there’s always such immense pride when it looks great and tastes even better.
These souvlaki or flatbreads are really easy – a bit like making pizza dough. I love that you can cook them on a pan and if you prefer, use a grill and cover them in lovely grill marks.
Once you’ve made your own, you won’t want to buy packet ones again.
This works really well with one of my favourite snacks – flatbread loaded with haloumi, fresh mint, olive oil and toasted pine nuts.
- 250g warm water
- 1½ tsp dry yeast
- 1½ tsp castor sugar
- 450g plain flour
- ½ tsp salt
- 70g olive oil
- Insert the kneading / crushing blade and add water, yeast and sugar to the bowl. Set on speed 1 for 3 minutes at 37 degrees.
- Add the remaining ingredients and mix for 6 seconds on speed 6 to combine then knead for 4 minutes.
- Place the dough in a bowl covered with cling wrap, and leave in a warm area for 30 minutes to prove.
- Divide into six portions, roll out into a rough circle and dry grill on medium-high heat until lightly golden on each side.
