I had some pretty tasty eats in July – here are some of my favourites.
For a healthier burger option I hit BurgerFuel to check out the V-Dub. It features a light wholemeal bun with a pumpkin patty with ginger crumble, beetroot, tomato relish, lettuce, red onion and tomato. And the fries come with a side of aioli. Was that down with a soy chocolate shake and you’ve got yourself a pretty good veg meal. They have vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options so if you’re one or any of these, it’s worth checking out.
I got to spend a couple of days in the city for work so to beat the peak hour rush home, I stopped in for Vietnamese at MissChu Tuckshop for an early dinner. I enjoyed a big ol’ vegan vermicelli salad loaded with button, enoki, shiitake and oyster mushrooms and tofu. The crispy veg spring rolls in lattice rice paper took me right back to my visit to Vietnam.
A Friday night dinner on a stormy night has to be one of my favourite eats for the month. I met friends at Golden Lotus, a vegan Vietnamese restaurant in Newtown. The place was packed, with a steady stream of diners and some even waiting outside in the rain (thankfully we’d booked online!) Dishes that stood out were the satay ‘chicken’ with cashews and the ‘beef’ rendang. I can’t believe I didn’t know about this joint – I’ll be going there again for sure!
On a Sunday journey way out west, I did something that I’d never thought to do before. It’s quite common at a cafe to see a breakfast burger on the menu, loaded with meatasaurus ingredients. So that’s usually a menu item that I skip as not being an option for me. Until now! At High St. Depot in Penrith I asked if I could alter the breaky burger and switch out the bacon and eggs for mushroom and tomato. They happily did so and it was so worth it!
