Sundays just got better! I was recently invited to Concrete Blonde, a restaurant and bar in Kings Cross, to try the new food and impressive cocktails over live jazz and lunch.
While the Cross is generally not a part of town I’d opt to visit at night, it takes on a more relaxed and welcoming feel during the day, with beautiful old apartment buildings to gaze upon.
I dined with a large group so between us we were able to try a few different cocktails – big and fruity, really refreshing. The smart guests shared their dishes. The entree and main sections of the menu each offered one vegetarian option so unfortunately, even though I sat next to another vego, I wasn’t able to try anything other than what I ordered. That being said, what I did have was really good.
My entree was marinated zucchini, goats curd, confit tomato and zucchini flower. A light dish with strong flavours.
For main I had the generously portioned parmesan gnocchi with shimeji mushrooms, leek and ricotta. To accompany our mains, side dishes of crunchy potatoes, carrots, broccoli and fries were shared amongst the group.
I did share dessert with a couple of the gals because let’s face it, when it comes to sweets three is so much better than one! We had the chocolate tasting plate, a baked lemon tart with thyme ice cream and the white chocolate and honeycomb parfait with sesame tuille.
I wasn’t a fan of the thyme ice cream, it just didn’t work for me. The parfait was my favourite, especially with the unexpected crunch of honeycomb pieces.
The hipster 3 piece jazz band playing on our visit gave the undercover outdoor dining area a really relaxed atmosphere. $7 cocktails every afternoon before 7pm and Friday lunch is the perfect excuse to meet up with friends on a summer afternoon!

The dishes were beautifully presented, delicious too!
I can’t see the pictures at the right size but I am sure they were all delicious! What a nice sunny day you got. Rare in Sydney these days!
The food was fab! Do the pics not work for you?
