In this tech savvy world we live in, with unlimited information constantly at our fingertips, booking your own travel can seem like a dream. If you’ve got loads of time up your sleeve and you love getting into the detail, it can be quite an enjoyable task.
It can also be pretty dang sweet to hand it all over to someone who lives and breathes travel, and let them take care of EVERYTHING for you.
I get a huge kick out of seeing new places and I try to take two overseas trips a year, with a few shorter local trips in between (check out my travel adventures here). Before I go away I’m usually pretty organised and book everything myself which includes everything from researching flights, booking accommodation and tours, arranging transfers to and from hotels, looking into visa requirements, researching what to see and do and of course, getting tips on the local dishes to try and the best places to eat.
So here’s how it happened for me. I wanted to go to Thailand and I’d locked in the dates for a three-week break. As I’d never been to Thailand I was getting blasted with tips and recommendations, to the point where I was a pretty bamboozled by it all. I needed a break from all the research.
I decided to visit a travel agent and let them do all the hard work. Oh boy, it felt so good to let it all go! I walked away feeling free, lighter and less stressed. Knowing that someone who has experience, knows what’s hot and has access to all the best tips,
A travel agent would be handy if you:
- don’t have time so sift through travel guides
- are overwhelmed by internet recommendations
- need to organise a trip quickly
- would like a personalised itinerary
- want someone else to take care of the arrangements
I like that you have one point of contact and you don’t have to pay multiple outlets like airlines, hotels, tour operators etc.
So next time you’re busy scrambling to lock in an upcoming getaway, take the pressure off yourself and consider using a travel agent. When it comes to holiday destinations, these guys really know their stuff.
What’s your preference when organising travel – DIY or travel agent?
