On a snowy night in Niseko last month, we came across a cosy little restaurant called Bang-Bang.
Bang-Bang, just off the main drag, is owned and run by Masanobu and his lovely wife Toshijo. Masanobu visited our table and we had a really nice chat with him. What an interesting fellow! As a younger man he spent 6 months in England so his English is quite good. Talking to all the English speaking guests must be great practice for him! Such a friendly couple, who were also kind enough to have a photo with me.
Although were only in Niseko for 5 nights, we had two dinners at Bang-Bang. It was just so good that we had to go back! It’s a gorgeous place on a cold night as the fire warms it up nicely. On both visits we sat at a table but you can also sit at the counter and watch the food being prepared. A very popular izakaya, Bang-Bang was full both times we were there.
Aside from the enormous beers, some of the dishes I loved are the spinach and potato salad, potato mochi, pan fried asparagus, pumpkin mochi and the vegetable yakitori. Of course I’ve only mentioned veg dishes here but they also have a lot of meat dishes if that’s what you’re after.
How does it rate?
I’ll be back to ski in Niseko and when I do, Bang-Bang will be one an essential pit stop! It has a really relaxed atmosphere, it’s reasonably priced, the dishes are simple and packed with flavour and the service is brilliant. If you ever visit Niseko I highly recommend stopping by for a delicious meal and a chat with Masanobu and Toshijo. It’s two happy faces for me!
