About

Hello and welcome! I’m Tara Mathews, a Sydney gal and yes, I’m a vegetarian. People choose vegetarianism for different reasons. For me it means I don’t eat meat and I have very little dairy (I do love cheese).

My decision for a vegetarian or compassionate lifestyle was predominantly about animals. I love animals and have always felt close to them, so it makes sense for me not to eat them. This is my second shot at being vego. The first time lasted a few years and somehow I slowly started integrating a little meat back into my diet. This time it feels very different. It’s so much easier because vegetarianism is becoming more popular and accepted… and there are some fabulous faux meat products around too!

For me the clincher was reading Eating Animals by Jonathan Safran Foer. It took me a long time to read because I knew how much my life would be affected afterwards. The book, very matter of factly, explores the animal farming industry. While it didn’t attempt to sway the reader one way or another I found it really powerful. Some parts were very difficult to read. I’m glad I got through it and I’m grateful for the knowledge. I wonder how many other people have chosen a vegetarian lifestyle simply from reading a book.

It’s important to note that this blog, born January 2012, is for everyone – I am NOT here to bag meat eaters! Don’t panic people, I’m not going to lecture you or make you feel bad about your eating choices. So whether you are a meat eater, a vego or somewhere in the middle, I hope to share a little something you will like.

So, why a blog? Vegetarianism has a reputation of being a tad boring and difficult so I hope to make it more fun and interesting! I’ll share my experiences, tips and ideas, food options, great restaurants, tasty recipes, shopping, products and of course, lots of photos.

Ok, enough of the serious stuff. I’m so glad you’re here! Come on a delicious journey with me.. it will be fun, I promise! x
