There are times when you unknowingly take for granted how great your city is and it can be the places that visitors know and love, the ones right under our noses, that we often underestimate.
On the weekend I was invited to tour The Rocks Markets, chat to some of the talented and passionate stallholders and get a feel for the relaxed vibe at this iconic artisan market, in the heart of Sydney.
With everything from handmade jewellery, artworks, clothing, homewares, beauty products and handmade soaps, there’s something to be found for everyone.
Hosting over two hundred stalls every weekend, the busy market offers an eclectic mix of locally designed arts, crafts and snacks. You could easily spend a whole day there while you stroll along the historic cobblestone streets of The Rocks, while browsing all the creative artisan goodies for sale.
I really enjoyed seeing all the fantastic art that’s being produced here and I got such a buzz from talking to our local and talented artists.
Some of my favourites were the incredible 2D cross-section illustrations of people in buildings from Stephanie Gray at Erlenmeyer Art, tasty Star Wars shaped cookies from bonniebix and handmade jewellery from Natalie Ness which you personalise by selecting which charms and pendants you want on your necklace or bracelet.
With this hub of creative activity back on my radar, I know where I’ll be going when I’m next looking to find that unique and original gift for someone special.
